James Tūhoe

James teaches piano from his Wellington studio to students of all ages and levels, and performs as an event pianist on weekends. His teaching style is patient and structured, built around whatever a student actually needs, whether that's technical grounding for someone preparing for an exam or simply the confidence to enjoy playing for its own sake. As a performer he moves comfortably between classical, jazz, and contemporary pop, reading a room and adjusting his set as an event unfolds rather than working from a fixed list. Whether he's coaching a nervous first-time exam candidate or playing background piano through a five-course wedding reception, he brings the same patience and attentiveness to the moment.

James has independently completed a New Zealand Police Vetting Check through CVCheck. This is required for all Musician Gallery teachers to complete before their profile goes live.
